No commercial links in documentation sites are allowed from now on. But no links from WordPress.org will be removed.

> we came to conclusion that we won’t allow, at least in the beginning and for the time being, any commercial blogs. So before you start arguing that some popular plugin’s blogs have valuable information, let me stop you right there.

The documentation team does not wish to make itself looks like taking sides and do not want to spend their time on weighing those links which would rather go to contributing to the documentation process.

But the decision didn't go well with some of the popular plugin authors. Yoast founder Joost de Valk commented on the same page that by removing links, WordPress will be treating contributors who give in a lot and those who do not contribute anything in the same manner. And contributors deserve to benefit from those links.

They are allowing commercial links in WordPress.org. I think that is fair enough. Commercial links are ads in real. I don't mind if WordPress chose to allow them, but it is a good decision not to spend the manpower into link moderation.

The latest trend in WordPress.org is half free - half premium. Almost all of the free plugins will ask you to pay if you need the full set of features.

Can't agree more. Everyone wants to make money.
