subdomains work ok. I have a tried to read a lot about them sometime back. Mostly a comparison between using a folder and subdomain. Everyone says subdomain is fine for SEO.
In most cases, sub domains are absolutely fine - unless the content is so bad that it doesn't even pass basic SEO tests. Your should also use sub domains for hosting static content to increase the rating you have using pagespeed, gtmetrix etc. Essentially, a cookie free domain.
@Abhi A domain that serves no cookies. The idea here is that you use a cookie-free domain to serve images, CSS files, scripts etc so that your users don't waste time and bandwidth transmitting cookies for them.
@Abhi It's one use, yes. Another is to host a mobile-only version of your site, although with the advances in modern themes that are mobile first, this is less of a requirement these days.
These days most news websites use a subdomains for AMP version. Not just that, but that is primary function for the big websites. They can use a folder but somehow they chose a subdomain..
