Monetise a forum

What are you tips about monetising a forum ? Considering that everyone uses an adblocker, we need to find other ways to make some money out of it. At least to meet the hosting, domain and maintenance charges.

I am not a fan of individual donations. It is hard to generate enough revenue that way. If could get sponsorship, that is a much better way of doing things. The difference is that there is a visible change that way. Even members can sponsor a new feature or a theme, something like that.
