Launching a social network?

What would you say would be the minimum budget to launch a social network by using a script such as PhpFox, WoWonder, MooSocial etc.? What would the basic steps of such a project be? I suppose you'd need to start a company first, right?

Just starting it doesn't require much more than hosting and a domain. There are open source social network software out there, so it's cheap to get up and running. If you on the other hand actually want to compete and get a solid userbase, either in a specific country or internationally, then I'd try to get a couple of millions if not more in investments first. In other words: social network for your neighborhood or your university: easy and pretty cheap, social network for the masses: super expensive, hard and you'll probably fail (unfortunately)

Like @Varlot said, it will expensive if we succeed.



But if we succeed, that expense is nothing big. A successful social network can afford 10 times that amount.
