While we can argue that knowing Linux is the best way to survive in the hosting arena, can we manage without all those command line tricks ?

Is there something the hosting world like WordPress where anyone can come and get things done ?

No. I don't think so. The true functionality of Linux as an OS is from the CLI. The DE came much later, so knowing the CLI is much more of an advantage. In most cases, the GUI provides a much "simpler" mechanism of getting things done, but the true power comes from the CLI. Think AWK and SED for example

I have tried a lot commands till date. But since the inception of Google, I have chosen not remember every small bit of information when it is readily available on net. But it is there in my subconscious.

@admin after a while, the command line becomes second nature. I recall when I first started out during the transition away from Windows, I did struggle. However, as time wore on, I became more accustomed and now get frustrated when returning to wondered and not being able to do something natively without a 3rd party application.

If you see distros like Ubuntu, they have a GUI app for almost every function. CLI is a bonus.

@Abhi probably, yes. Most home users won't leverage the CLI that much.

Do you know that a lot of service advertise CLI as an added benefit for developers. I always wonder why. They say " Hey, look we also have a CLI. Isn't it impressive ? ".

Never understood the logic behind it.

A lot of developers like CLI. They boast of their CLI abilities. So some projects cash in through that method. It is just like Linux is great. Windows has some very good things that no Linux distro has now. But still we all praise Linux one way or other.

@admin Windows also has a fundamental lack of security which Linux doesn't. For example, EXT4 can read NTFS and also be used to reset the local admin password of a Windows install. Try doing that in reverse.
