SATA (HDD) and SAS are rarely used these days. However AWS still provides this as the underlying magnetic storage for Glacier etc which means the cost is next to nothing. However, copy and recovery rates are much slower, so it's not for production use, but extremely cheap and effective for archiving.
@Abhi well, that really depends on the manufacturer. USB drives (the cheap ones) are supposedly ok for one million accesses. SSD technology has come a long way since inception. I've had my current one a few years.
