Flutterum (a bbPress option)

For fun I started working on a new WordPress/bbPress theme. The focus is bbPress but a side effect is the fact that it’s also a WordPress theme. Or, vice versa?

There’s a lot more to do. But, already you can now have a slightly better looking, responsive, blazing fast bbPress forum.

P.S. I also personally have Flarum powered forums and I like Flarum more. But, bbPress is so easy to get up and running that I thought I’d play around with it.

Maybe. I’m not sure if I’ll try to make it look even more like Flarum or let the more old school bbPress style shine.

I think the very next thing I’ll do is make the site's header better. And, I like the upvoting plugin I'm using. But, I don’t like where it is positioned when looking at a post.

Are you coding it from scratch ? There are so many frameworks these days to build a WordPress theme.

@Abhi I purchased the domain name "Flutterum" for something else. But, then decided to use it for this bbPress project instead. Flutter as in butterflies fluttering.

I just finished doing a few more tweaks. The header/menu is cleaner now.

I also decided that Flutterum will be the name of the overall project, not the theme. I might eventually create multiple themes. So, this first theme is called "Rain." And I have no idea why. Just a word that came to mind at the time.

As far as how it was made, I started with WordPress' starter theme called underscore. Then started adding CSS and adjusting templates.

I just submitted it to the WordPress theme repository. But, it has to be approved first.

No, I purchased it fromhttps://thenounproject.com/.

You don’t have to purchase... I think the icons are free as long as you credit the author. But, by paying I’m supporting the person who made it, I don’t have to credit the author, plus at any moment I can go back to the noun project site and easily change the color of the icon (logo) or download a different format. You don’t get that feature if you download for free.

I refined it bit, so that the flapping is smooth. Not that the earlier one is bad, this one is smoother.

@Abhi Pretty cool, thanks! “Rain” by Flutterum is now available in the WordPress theme repository. It’s minimal, very fast, and modern. You can easily change various colors from the customizer. The menu is 100% accessible (tab browsing). And, it’s free!

The Rain theme by Flutterum now has a footer widget layout powered by Flexbox. It is active on over 100 websites and counting. With the bbPress plugin you can have a nice (not as nice as Flarum), clean, super fast blog and forum. It may be faster than Flarum with a WordPress caching plugin. But, not as cool.
