Effectiveness of SEO

Have you found SEO to be an effective tool for growing your website? How has it helped, and what methods have you used?

I have never really found SEO to be beneficial for my projects, but that could just be due to the fact that my projects were highly "niche."

Depends a lot on the topic and content. Like you said, for some cases, it is not necessary.
