Cheaper but bad peformance

I have come across this scenario a lot. When people look for a host, they will look for a company with some background. That is a natural thing which everyone does.

But the next thing they look for is the price. People leave behind some options over other only because the price is less on another offer. But some of those cases can go terribly wrong due to over-selling and the resultant lack of performance. Downtimes, slow page loading speed etc.

Do you think that there is an effective way to not to fall into such offers ? How do you know they don't have performance issues.

Reviews. There is no other way. But even that won't work if you come top in the line. ie, they started overselling after you bought them.

You could always go to a forum and ask someone, " hey are you using Vultr ? Do they over sell ? ". Simple and easy as long as you get a honest reply.

In rare cases, less does in fact equal more, but this is only true for the most part when the provider is new. As soon as uptake occurs, the systems are overwhelmed, over subscribed, and slow down as a result.

I have heard some decent names accused of this.

But mostly big names use their might to play it down or never let it happen.
