Nowadays you'll need proficiency in using a computer and some standard software for most jobs, so computers in schools seems like a smart thing.

Yes, but we can manage without one too. It is just a tool. And knowledge is a much higher concept.

I think they no longer publish hard cover books anymore. Do they?

The problem with all these high tech gadgets, the average family has to have BOTH parents working in order to afford them. The poor keeps getting poorer.

With that said, I do think computers should be in education but only as a part not the whole. I learned computers in school (the old ones we had to "boot up") as well as typing. The curriculum should have a wide variety of subjects to learn. Some tech, but some non-tech. Kids today rely on tech way too much that if they lose their phone, they don't even know their home phone number.

@Abhi They do. In most countries, (close to) all new books are first printed in hard cover, then re-released in a pocket edition a year later.

@ZandraJoi I think it should be a given that the school covers the expenses. It shouldn't cost money to attend school or to properly be able to follow the curriculum given at school. Also, no one are proposing 100% tech, or that everything at school happens on the computer, that's a straw man.

Technology can be very useful when it comes to education. But the students shall be taught to use it in the right way instead of using it for personal reasons while they are studying. Those who truly wish to learn wouldn't get distracted by technology.

This is the biggest challenges of the use of computers and technology in education. It comes with a great deal of distraction that even adults are affected and influenced by it and not just kids.

It's up to the individual. If they are serious about learning, they will keep themselves focused on their tasks. Unfortunately, not everything is always perfect and some people will always get distracted.
